This is book 2 of the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss Series. Although each book can be considered a stand alone - the timeline of the story progresses with each book and the characters cross over into each book. I strongly recommend reading the series in order.This series reminds me of a little bit of the sci-fi book series 'Dune', the sci-fi romance book series 'Ice Planet Barbarians' and a little bit of Dragon lore/treasure collection such as seen in several other genres about Dragons. You'll see a taste of all of that in this new series by Miranda Martin and Juno Wells. It's still unique and worth the read if you like sci-fi romances with some hot bedroom scenes. There are also humorous scenes (about the debate of Star Wars vs Star Trek and even Dr. Who for example) and we have our fair share of angst about the poor environment, viscous man-eating creatures and turmoil within the human settlement.
Good plot, suspense, character definition and romance. The story flows well and is easy to read and understand. The 'alien(s)' aren't your typical humanoid variety. These guys have horns, tails, scales and wings but are still hot alpha males that protect their mate.
I will definitely be reading more from Miranda and Juno!

I did not like as well as the first book in the series. Many inconsistencies between both books in regards to the world itself. Things that were foreign to Ladon about humans were recognizable to Sverre. There were also too many grammatical errors. Distracting. Also the time line from Dragon's Baby to Dragon's Mate was way off. Noticeably off. I did not care for Jolie in this book. She was extremely jealous of Calista. They are best friends , but she wanted everything that Calista had. I felt it was a driving force. I did like Sverre. Although I do not understand why he has become a leader in Landon's territory. Also, why is Gershom still alive. He's a coward and should have died by now. He really adds nothing but hate to the series. I am interested in Amara's story. I hope it's better than Jolie's.
Sverre, another Zmaj goes to find out what the big explosion was and finds another Zmaj with humans. He keeps an eye on them and notices a girl who is outside the city being attacked by animals and he saves her. He also wants her to be his treasure. In his quest to keep her alive he must risk entering Ladon's territory knowing it may mean his death. But he will do this for his Jolie. There's plenty of action in this book and the romance between the humans and alien dragons is great. Trying to work together for both species is complicated but now they are willing to try.. And Sverre comes with the knowledge of knowing how to get the shield working. I'm really liking the series and can't wait to see what is going to happen when the girls have their babies.
Lots of action and lots of love in Dragon's Mate. Jolie, a spunky human and dragon Sverre have all kinds of adventures and mishaps on the way to falling in love. They have to deal with and handle many problems, such as the group of humans who think and act as if they have more rights to the planet and city they were allowed to reside in by Ladon, the dragon that claimed the city and surrounding desert as his territory after the war that destroyed their civilization. This book is filled with amazing amounts emotions of all kinds, though there isn't as much world building. The characters really come alive in Dragon's Mate, as the survivors try to come to grips with an uncertain future. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I felt like it touched on all the things that make up a good story. The only downside for me, was that the editing was not as good compared to Dragon's Baby, not enough to ruin the story, but I had to stop a number of times to figure out sentences that had extra or missing words.
I have not been so happy to finally be done with a book in a long time. I found Jolie to be irrational and extremely over emotional (which didn't follow the base that was set for her in the first book or the fact that she is supposed to be a scientist). She spent almost half the book crying or being completely irrational. Sverre shows basic signs of being abusive, his outbursts of anger in which some of them he grabs her (not the sexy way) and gives presents or sweet caresses to show his sorry. Only to have another outburst later on. That's an abusive relationship. At least towards the end of the book Sverre was acting better, so I'm able to look past his actions but Jolie was a horrible read throughout the whole book. I mean really, Sverre gets hurt BAD(almost died). He is showing signs of healing and is still breathing but asleep. She spends two paragraphs crying about how thirty hours is to long for him to take to heal. Get real, he almost died a day ago and she's crying about him not being up and about.
I'll stop my rant. Sorry for going on to so long. In case you haven't already guessed in my opinion this book sucked. In fact it might have ruined the series for me, I'm still debating on if I will read the next book or not.
I really liked Sverre. He was a great male protagonist, his character added to the narrative and world/culture building. Jolie, the female protagonist, not so much. Other reviewers have pointed out that she was annoying and self-centered and I agree. It seemed like the authors were going for "petite and fiesty" but ended up with immature, impolite, nosy pain in the ass. She did things like snoop around the house and then insisted on accompanying him when he went out to hunt or search for resources for her in the extreme heat--even though she was suffering from severe dehydration. And of course she got into trouble and had to be saved. A lot. Nothing worse than a TSTL female lead... Too bad she couldn't have gotten swallowed by a sarlac-pit. However, even though she was not the most sympathetic, she was a very realistic "I feel like I know them" character, which is something both of these authors consistently deliver.
But aside from her, the story was good and, as always, I did enjoy the sexy times. If you like this series, this book is worth picking up for the male H, and the sake of continuity.
