Jack and Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pail of water...
As far back as anyone can remember the hill has been off limits. The dangers that lurk atop that hill are too much for any villager to confront. But tales of a well with healing waters are enough to convince Jill to risk a trip up the hill when her father becomes sick. If she does not risk her life to find the water, her father very well may lose his.
Jack and Jill is a short story of approximately 5500 words.
Jack and Jill eBook Bill Dowis
This short tale from Bill Dowis is a dark take on why Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail a water... to save their dying father from death's icy grip. Though the writing could use a comb through from an editor, the story as a whole was very entertaining. Dowis managed to drag me up the forbidden incline and into a creepy forest with a host of angry inhabitants. With a church, a dark forest, and swooping shadows, it's hard not to enjoy this short story and I will see what this author comes up with next.
